Magson Marine helps local kids
BY Melvin Victor – JUNE 2011
Magson Marine got involved with the local kids of Lamberts Bay this weekend together with Boland Body Boarding, Reef, Science, Ocean Earth, Glider sunglasses and the big sponsor Kumba Iron Ore.
This idea started when I suggested that Magson Marine must get involved with the local development as I am a Body Boarder and like to give back to the sport. We then supplied the jet ski for this event as a safety craft on the water and also as something to take the kids on a ride with on the ocean as most of them had never set foot on a craft like this before. The first event – 1 of 5 – was held on Saturday 18 June in Lamberts Bay with the last event in October that will close of the series with a big competition for all the local kids of the West Coast.
These events are going to be held for the local kids of the West coast. The aim of these events is to get the local kids of the West Coast involved with the sport of Body Boarding, to give them something to do and also to teach them to enjoy the ocean and more of the environment. Kumba Iron Ore, the main sponsor, put a big amount aside for the education and equipment for this project and it helps a lot for the community in general. The help of all the other sponsors makes this project so much better and raises great awareness among the local community.
We used the jet ski to sit behind the waves while the kids were surfing to ensure their continuous safety so that we could assist if anyone of them got into trouble. Later the day, I also took some kids for a ride on the jet ski, as all of these kids never had an opportunity to ride on one before. It was an absolute pleasure to see and hear the enjoyment of these kids when I took them out on the jet ski.
Big thanks to Frans of Boland Body Boarding that got us on board for these events. It's events like these that we are very happy to be a part of and will definitely help out again. For more info on these events, please contact Magson Marine or Frans on the Boland Bodyboarding Facebook group or check out the following website: www.surfertoday.com
Cheers
Melvin
