content & PROGRAMME

This practically-focused and engaging course will equip you with the skills and knowledge to gain your SAMSA skipper’s license, recognised internationally and valid for life. We offer skipper courses for boats under and over 9 metres. All skipper tickets are SAMSA approved.

Day 1

LECTURES
Legal requirements, seamanship, motors, safety and emergencies, the rules of the road and distress signals, weather/marine environment, first aid, navigation and chart work. We’ll also emphasise the key considerations when buying a good boat.

Day 2

THEORETICAL TEST & COURSE EVALUATION
The practical component, where candidates will receive guidance until a satisfactory level of boat handling is achieved, takes place immediately after the test.

PLEASE NOTE
If Day 1 falls on a Friday, Day 2 will be the following day.
If Day 1 falls on a Saturday, Day 2 will be the following Saturday.

    To register for the course, a deposit of R500 is required.
    The above course fee includes course material, lectures, meal, theoretical test, SADSAA fees and practical component. There are no other costs involved except a fee of R150 that may be applicable if we need to supply a boat and skipper.
